British Columbia’s Best Family Lawyers

Well, my previous post about the best family lawyers in Vancouver got a lot of traffic so here is Part 2, also known as the British Columbia’s best family lawyers. I will now refer some lawyers from around BC who I have had personal dealings with and think they are great at what they do. But first, remember a few things:

The Best Family Lawyer in BC – Things to Remember

• Just because your family lawyer is not on this list, that doesn’t mean he/she is not good. I probably haven’t met them so I can’t give an opinion. If you want to know if your lawyer is good, ask for references or just use common sense in most situations. Your gut feeling is usually right.

• Online ratings are not always accurate because usually people who are really not happy with much in life go online and leave bad ratings, sometimes for the best lawyer out there. Kinda like Ratemymd.com which is full of angry people. Leaving reviews for a business or place is different from leaving reviews for people. There is something personal about leaving reviews for people that doesn’t exist when you are rating food at a restaurant. Obviously when someone trashes a lawyer online for no good reason, that doesn’t say good things about them not necessarily the lawyer. Also, people who are happy have less of an urge to go on there and give compliments which is unfortunate. Anyways, last but not least:

• You must choose first if your case is acrimonious or settlement oriented. This is the most important question because it affects my recommendation for the best Family Lawyer in BC. Read about this important point here first.

Best Family Lawyers in BC (Leena’s opinion only – Don’t Rely on It or Sue me).

1. Vancouver
   1. She’s been the successful lawyer on some of the most important BC Family Law decisions. You can’t go wrong with her. She is good for both settlements and negotiations.
3. Kamloops
   1. David Dundee has some good reviews, great academic work and tons of work experience when it comes to Family Law. Nowadays he focuses on mediation and if you are lucky, he may just be your counsel and represent you in your family law case. He is good for settlement negotiations and amicable outcomes.
4. Victoria
   1. My law classmate and a very intelligent and hard working lawyer I know, Jim Monier-Williams is your lawyer to go to in Victoria for complex family law cases. He is approachable and understanding of your case. You’ll be in very good hands, specially during litigation.
5. Prince George, Fort St. John and Northern BC
   1. Although based in Vancouver, Shauna Specht practices family law up north and she is amazing at what she does. She worked at MacLean law just before I started working there and I heard nothing but good things about her practice of family law. Later on, I saw her in Court here and there, and sometimes came up legal questions which she helpfully and happily answered. She is passionate and fully knows what she does. Great choice if you live up north and need an experienced family lawyer who is good on her feet in Court.

I repeat just like I did in my last post, choose your lawyer based on referrals and word of mouth, not a Google search. Google shows the family law firm that paid the most to show up on page #1. The best family lawyer in BC may not even be on the internet or have a website.
