Ramanjot Dahia – Family Lawyer in Langley

A partner and family lawyer in Langley, Raman Dahia, is an old soul whose life purpose is to simply help people. Whether staying up past midnight at mediation to get favourable results or having to go on complex court applications, her main goal is, and always remains, helping her clients.

She is one of the most compassionate and caring lawyers at YLaw. But what makes her really special is her attention to detail. The combination of her big and small-picture talents makes her an asset to the family law legal profession. Raman has a natural ability to tell her client’s story to the judge or mediator in a way that will leave no questions unanswered.

Raman’s Educational Background and Dedication to Her Family Law Clients

Raman finished her undergraduate degree in 3 years and multiple scholarships. She completed her Juris Doctor on the Dean’s List and made it her goal to have the best career in family law.

Raman has dealt with a myriad of family law issues and cases, including parenting time, asset division, spousal support and child support, child relocation, etc. As an estate litigator, she deals with issues including capacity, undue influence, wills variation, executor duties, fees, etc.

Approach

Approach to Family Law Matters – Detailed, Strategic, Collaborative, and Honest

Raman likes to keep things simple. She does this by taking on complex matters and analyzing/breaking them down until she has narrowed the issue enough for anyone to understand and rule in her favour. Raman’s process for dealing with legal matters is as follows:

  • She will ask about your story and listens to all parts of it;
  • She will customize an in-depth strategy that fits your story and achieves your goals;
  • She will continuously involve you in the process and keep communication open;
  • At all times, she will provide an estimate of the time and costs involved in every stage of your case.

Highly Skilled in Mediation, Litigation, Negotiations, and Separation Law

Raman has extensive experience in mediation, litigation, negotiations, etc. She believes a good family lawyer is one that can switch directions and use whatever tools are available to protect her client.

Raman understands that going through a separation is stressful for her clients. Whether her clients’ matter is proceeding in Court or outside of Court, Raman encourages her clients to be involved in the resolution and to remain focused on the long-term goal.

Achievements
  • M.J.V. v J.R, 2022 BCSC 1068, in which she was successful in a summary trial relocation application. The Court granted her client’s application to relocate his son to Alberta. One of the objections to the relocation was that the siblings would be split up as a result. The Court considered this and found her client had made substantial provision for continuing communication and contact between the child and his mother and his sister and that these relationships could be sustained and nurtured while the child was living in Edmonton. The Court also accepted their position that the parties’ informal verbal agreement was an “agreement” for the purposes of s. 16.93(2) such that mom had the burden of establishing that the relocation was not in the best interest of the child.
  • Completed her B.A. in under four years;
  • Awarded the Law Foundation of B.C. Entrance Scholarship;
  • Appeared numerous times successfully at:
    • B.C. Provincial Court; and
    • B.C. Supreme Court.
