Omid is passionate about family law and is honoured to join the YLaw team as an associate, having previously articled with our firm. Raised in Calgary, Omid is a first-generation Canadian and the first in his family to attend law school. Dealing with adversity from a young age, he knows and embraces challenges head-on.

Omid’s talents and potential come from the very diverse and interesting professional and academic life he has lived. Growing up, Omid was a Para-Alpine ski racer representing Canada in many venues across North America. Omid won many medals in ski racing including a silver medal at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. This skill taught Omid the value of perseverance, determination, and dedication.

After high school and his retirement from ski racing, Omid pursued a Child and Youth Care Counselling degree at Mount Royal University in Calgary. While completing his degree, Omid volunteered with the Calgary Distress Centre and Canadian Suicide Prevention Service. He carries his empathetic, compassionate, and validating approach to issues into the practice of family law. Omid moved to Kamloops in 2021 to attend Thompson Rivers University, where he earned his Juris Doctor. He understands that change can be challenging in many aspects of life. He worked as a student clinician at the TRU Community Legal Clinic, helping Kamloopsians in the community navigate their legal issues.

APPROACH

Through his experience as a Child and Youth Care Counsellor, Omid learned to listen to the issues that were important to children, while maintaining a safe space for them to express how they feel.  He values patience, compassion, and empathy. Omid understands that it takes time to build trust and rapport with clients. He knows that legal issues are not always quickly resolved. He looks forward to using his child counselling experience and his legal education to help clients navigate family issues.
